Don't consume your way through your hobby

What Ava writes in their blog post hobbies and online recognition is a statement I seem to get in my bubble of the internet to a fair share. I agree not everything should be vavlue driven and also you can not ignore "the economy" right now. But it seems to be very American with the TikTok's of overconsumption. I of course acknowledge that this happens as well in Europe but every time I see for example a tarot video that is just: I bought these magical tarot decks UNBOXING it's always an American girl telling me to consume more witchy things. Because this makes them spiritual. I hardly disagree. You don't often don't need more than two things for a hobby. Two pencils, an bow and arrow, PC and writing software.

you hobby might not be my hobby

It's something I once read about at Marc’s Blog that hobbies are divided between doing the hobby and consuming the hobby. I once shot how and arrow in a local club. I bought one bow and sometimes upgraded the arms to heavier weights. The arrows were green and black (which is horrible to search for in a field) but I bought them once and that's it. I don't know the name of the manufacturer or brand and u know what? That's okay because I just did the hobby. It's the same when you decided to learn more about personal knowledge systems like notion and obsidian. You often don't need any addons or templates. You need to do the writing and find out what you miss and then find it.

Growing is hard

I have two different tarot decks because my partner once warted their own one and decided she would like a different one from the Rider Waite Smith default tarot deck. And then we just practiced. When it was hard to read the new cards I leaned on the visuals language of RWS instead of buying a decks that looks pretty and might offer an easy revelation. No deck ever will be easy in every card. It's cool to have a collection because you can show it off to your friends and to the internet but u knows cooler? Actually do a reading for my friends and share my actual hobby with them.

me making it big

I should be honest I never tried to get big (only a old video game blog made with blogger mind you or the time on twitter) but I never did my hobbies only to get fame (at least in the beginning at the end you stick it out for that?!) so I can't really speak to that. But I will try to offer a service / product soon to launch a brand but I am aware that this is the project (not the crafty part but doing business). We will see if it's fun.

Do the things and not consume (buy, watch videos) your way through them.
